Matric Rewrite gives students a second chance to meet the requirements of Matric. The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) also refers to it as a Second Chance Matric Programme.

The second chance matric programme was introduced by the Department of Basic Education (DBE) in 2016 for those who want to improve on the results of their last examination sitting.
