NATIONAL CERTIFICATES N4-N6: MEDICAL SECRETARY
A medical secretary must enjoy the medical fraternity, be strong in administrative functions and build good relationships with doctors, nurses and professionals in the medical industry. The course attracts students with a passion for medicine, administration and patient care. It will groom you to work as front office reception at hospitals, clinics and doctor’s rooms, and be a liaison with all medical aids and medical sales representatives, often providing order to the busy schedules of medical professionals. If you enjoy being the go-to-person for all matters related to medical queries and administration and assisting patients with relevant information and support, then this career is for you.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
What do I need to have completed before I can apply to study this course?
THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION INTO THIS COURSE:
- Grade 12, or Level 4 National Certificate (NQF), or an NC(V) Level 4.
- Enrolment in January and July
COURSE DURATION
How long will it take to complete the qualification?
- 6 months for each of the certificates on a full-time basis (N4, N5 and N6). The course will be run on a distance and full-time basis (4 days theoretical classes and 1 day work-based experience.)
- To obtain a National N-Diploma in Medical Secretary requires a minimum of 18 months’ theoretical study plus 18 months’ of work-based experience

Achieving the necessary entry requirements at academic level during this course will enable you to continue studying in a business-related field of study. This can be done by completing your National N-Diploma at a TVET College, or studying towards a specific business qualification at an institution of Higher Education, such as a University or University of Technology, based on your academic achievements meeting their specific admission requirements.
